(64% Cabernet Sauvignon, 36% Syrah)
95pts & Editors' Choice Wine Enthusiast “Edgy and tight, with sharply defined corners--herbalo, with a leafy/stemmy note, well integrated into wild, brambly berry fruits. The 50% new oak is virtually invisible at this point; it fills out the mouthfeel but does not show specifically.”
94pts Wine Spectator “Muscular and powerful, brimming with ripe currant, blackberry, blueberry and meat flavors, yet graceful enough to do a pirouette as it spins into the finish. Lingers effortlessly as the flavors keep blasting away against polished tannins. Needs time only to tame the ebullience. Best from 2014 through 2010.”
94pts Robert Parker's Wine Advocate “A blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, and Syrah in which the latter component dominates the nose. Ripe, spicy, and well balanced, this structured wine will benefit from 2-3 years of cellaring and drink well through 2023.”

93pts Wine Enthusiast “With its excellent concentration of pure fruit power, this is like taking your mouth through a 100 yard dash of raspberry, blueberry and black cherry fruit, right down the heart of the throat. Along the way you find a tight wrapping of rock and espresso, but it’s the snappy, sappy fruit that really shines here. Great length.”

93pts and “Editors' Choice” Wine Enthusiast “First you smell chocolate, then it quickly shows a piercing minerality, with tart boysenberry and pomegranate fruit. Dense without being heavy, it has compact layering that shows especially in the aromatics. A subtle, refined, elegant wine that does not feel at all like its 15% alcohol.”

Dense and dark, with aromas of black raspberries and forest floor. Notes of mountain huckleberry, soft wood, sweet tobacco and kirsch. An elegant and seamless finish leaves you satisfied, yet still wanting more. [download tech sheet]

2008 K “Milbrandt” – Columbia Valley

93pts Robert Parker's Wine Advocate “The 2008 Syrah Milbrandt Vineyard was made with 40% whole clusters. Smoked meat, game, lavender, and blueberry aromas titillate the nose leading to an already complex, smooth-textured, succulent wine that will deliver pleasure now through 2018.”
92pts, #28 Top 100 Wines of 2010, Seattle Metropolitan
“This wine which comes from Sundance and Pheasant sites at Milbrandt Vineyards, offers an outrageously high quality-to-price ratio for a Washington Syrah.”
90pts Wine Enthusiast “The Milbrandt bottling is fruit cropped a little higher, and macerated with fewer stems for a shorter time. It is a fine introduction to the K Vintners style; showing good density in a moderately ripe format. The fruit is brambly and tart, with some earth and stem flavors, good balance, and a hint of the grape’s gamy aspect."

Our most intense, elegant and finesseful vintage to date. Classic K, dialed up a notch, with notes of smoked meat, cracked pepper, red raspberries and violets. So luscious, so tasty, and an unbelievable value. Get it while it’s hot! [download tech sheet]

92pts Wine Spectator “Polished, focused and refined, offering a supple mouthfeel of blackberry, green olive, sage and smoke flavors, mingling effectively as the finish sails on against well-buffed tannins. Drink now through 2016.”

From an ancient vineyard, this has intense minerality, big, ripe dense bramble-fruit flavors and a massive, long finish. [download tech sheet]

90pts Wine Enthusiast “Very floral, with lovely scents of lily and spice. It’s all fruit, with no new wood, and some whole cluster flavors of bark and stem. All nicely integrated and subtle, adding texture and detail. There is a streak of balsamic, and tart berry fruit flavors with a powerful, peppery, earthy component from the vineyard.”

99 pts Robert Parker
An inky purple/black in color, it deals out aromas of mineral, truffle, espresso, licorice, lavender, incense, and blueberry. Super complex, suave and debonair on the palate, this is a lengthy, concentrated, impeccably balanced, complete Syrah. [download tech sheet]

2007 Charles Smith Wines “Skull" Syrah – Royal Slope Columbia Valley

98 pts Robert Parker's Wine Advocate “Also from the Stoneridge Vineyard on the Royal Slope, it was aged in 20% new oak with some stems. It is a more brooding effort with aromas of earth, underbrush, truffle, Asian spices, incense, and blueberry. It is slightly more structured with a bit more density and richness. Give it 6-8 years of additional bottle age and drink 2017 to 2032.”
97pts and "Cellar Selection" Wine Enthusiast “Killer juice. It has it all—focus, depth, detail and power. Spice and herb, punch and power, wrapped into a wine with bright, tight berry fruit and layer upon layer of earth, rock and herb. It surpasses the ability of language to describe it. But it needs time—a lot of time.”

2007 Charles Smith Wines “Heart" Syrah – Royal Slope Columbia Valley

98 pts Robert Parker's Wine Advocate“Sourced from Stoneridge Vineyard in the Royal Slope, it was aged entirely in neutral oak. Earth, underbrush, truffle, brier, game, bacon, and blueberry aromas lead to loaded, super-rich, unctuous, full-bodied Syrah. Mouth-filling, already complex, and multi-dimension, it has exceptional length and impeccable balance. Give it 3-4 years to become a bit more civilized and enjoy it from 2014 to 2027.”
98pts and “Cellar Selection” Wine Enthusiast “This initially tastes like young fruit, herbal, with a lot of stem and flower flavors, but with some heat at 16% alcohol. Nonetheless it’s delicious, compact, enormously fruity, focused and flat out amazing. A perfect mix of flesh, fruit, earth, and typicity from this unique vineyard.”

2007 Charles Smith Wines “Old Bones" Syrah – Royal Slope Columbia Valley

99 pts Robert Parker's Wine Advocate“This is composed of 50% Heart and 50% Skull aged in 500 liter new barrels. Savory, rich, layered, and already complex, this exceptionally lengthy mouth-filling, hedonistic Syrah offers just a micrometer of extra flavor interest compared to either Heart or Skull individually. The new oak and a broader palette of flavors to choose among are the most likely contributors.”
96pts Wine Enthusiast “This displays extraordinary fruit flavors, along with a dense, deep minerality. The flavors seamlessly blend berry, rock, graphite, fresh herb, and light barrel notes. But the fruit! Ripe and rich and aggressively full bodied. Berries piled upon earth and rock, and the flavors linger forever.”
